When fishermen went to sea for an extended trip, they brought what was referred to locally as a Labrador Blanket box, made of wood and the more elaborate boxes had custom ropework becket handles and considered as the epitome of a knotter's art with ornate and complicated hitching. Two of these have leather axels and constructed of linen parceled over cordage and then braised by a very skilled sailor and then painted.  The leather axel is finished with notched washers and turk's head knots and these would have been held in place by wooden chest cleats on each side. The rarest of the three, the largest,  would have possibly had a metal axel when connected to a wooden cleat.  Viewers are welcome to offer an opinion on the previous use of this larger becket.  Museum quality sailor's folk art at it's finest
