This outstanding oil painting of "The Three Sisters" is signed and the signature looks to be N. Captain William Munden had his father's ship rebuilt in 1851by Michael Kearney and re-named her "The Three Sisters". In the mid 1860's, the the vessel later sales for Munn's. there is also a family connection as Captain Azariah Munden married John Munn's daughter .

Chris O’Dea of O’Dea’s Realty and Auction Room is teaming up with Wayne Bartlett of Bartlett’s Auctions to present the public with an outstanding auction sale, the estate of Thomas Munn.

Much of the contents has roots in Harbour Grace, to where John Munn emigrated from Rothesay, Bute, Scotland. At the age of 18, he made first his way to Greenhock, where Baine Johnson and Co had their head office , where he worked for 7 years from 1826-1833. In the same office was Captain William Punton. In 1833 Munn and Punton formed a partnership  in Harbour Grace involved in all aspects of the fishery, trading salt fish with Europe. When Punton passed away in 1845, John Munn became sole owner under the name of Munn and Co.

Other contents come from the Baird family. James C. Baird, who emigrated from Scotland in 1844 and established himself as one of the more prominent merchants in St. John’s, and some family members still manage thye company premises at Baird’s Cove. Some of the contents came from the Baird summer home, Bryn Mawr. That house was lost by fire in Dec 2022.

Contents include a significant collection of archival documents, antiquarian NL books and pamphlets, antiquarian NL maps, fine mahogany period furnishings, early Newfoundland prints, a considerable collection of art (Mary Pratt, David Blackwood, Reginald Shepherd, Helen Parsons Shepherd, Julia Pickard, Frank LaPointe, Wally Brants, Harold Goodridge, Anne Meredith Barry, etc) 19th century oil and Gouache paintings of Munn / Munden vessels, some of which are with Mount Vesuvius erupting in the background of the Bay of Naples, sterling silver, and many and varied collectables.
