Foster Families NL (FFNL) has a mandate to advance and promote the professional role of Foster Parents and to be a collective voice for Foster Families throughout our province. FFNL works in partnership with all stakeholders within the foster care program to meet the needs of Foster Families and to enhance the care and support provided to children in care and their families. FFNL has responsibilities in the areas of education, recruitment, retention, support, and advocacy. The Foster Families NL is a non-profit organization with three staff who cover the entire province of Newfoundland and Labrador and, as such, resources are often limited.
Besides supporting foster families and community outreach, we present in the school system. The Different Kinds of Families school presentation was implemented by the Foster Families NL to provide information about how families are the same and how they are different. It talks about reasons that children come into care, the reality that not all children live with their birth family, and aids in removing some of the stigma that we still hear about foster families.
Our online auction is our main fundraiser for the year. It will run from June 1, 2024, to June 8, 2024, starting to at close at 5:30 pm. All proceeds will assist the FFNL to continue and expand programming to assist families and children/youth in our communities.
